| After 2 days of facial surgery, I stood by the bedside of my patient... her face, postoperative... her mouth twisted, generally broken up... wasted. I know she will be that way from this days on bec. a tiny twig of the facial nerve in her mouth has been severed. With all my best i tried to preserve the curve of her lips, but because i had to remove the tumor in her cheek, i was left with no other choice but to cut this little nerve. Her young husband was in the room seated on the of her bed. They seemed to be in a world all their own. "Will my mouth always be like this?" the youn woman asked. I said "Yes, it will be. The nerve i cut made it impossible for me to keep its original shape." She nodded and turned her face away from me. But the young man smiled. "i like it," he said. "it is cute and kissable."
